Pastor Christopher A. Cooper
Pastor Christopher A. Cooper is a native of Gordonsville, VA. He is married to Wendy Cooper. He graduated from Orange County High School in 1985. Upon his graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army to serve his country, further his education, and defined leadership skills. He had a distinguished military career ultimately retiring as a commissioned officer in February 2011.
He obtained an ASD in Business Administration from Piedmont Virginia Community College. Currently, he holds a Bachelors Degree in Management with a minor in Military Science from James Madison University. Pastor Cooper also has attended the Richmond Virginia Seminary.
He submitted himself unto the Lord for baptism in June of 2002 at Union Baptist Church of Gordonsville, VA. Shortly after his baptism, he realized there was a greater calling on his life, under the tutelage of Pastor James T. Jackson, he was licensed along with his wife to preach the gospel in November 2003. He was ordained by Dr. M. Louis Lacey, Children of God Victory Tabernacle Ministries, Richmond, VA.
His defined hunger for the gospel has led him to improved education in ministry, youth outreach programs, men’s ministries and community. He has received many invitations to spread the gospel and share in outreach programs. Due diligence and the desire to grow spiritually has led Pastor Cooper to serve under the leadership of Dr. Wade Richmond, Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, Montpelier, VA., Dr.
Ronald Taylor, Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Richmond, VA., Pastor Clindon Turner, Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Leesville, LA., and Dr. M. Louis Lacey, Children of God Victory Tabernacle Ministries, Richmond, VA.
Pastor Christopher A. Cooper was selected as Pastor Elect of Pilgrim Baptist Church On January 3, 2015. He was installed as Pastor on April 19, 2015. Since Pastor Cooper’s selection and installation under the guidance of the Holy Spirit Pilgrim Baptist Church is on the move. We have implemented programs to improve the spiritual well-being of our members, a six week bible study course, a praise team,
participation in weekly prayer calls, a men’s choir, women’s choir, a youth ministry, a feeding program for youth, and an emphasis on building a church based upon the love Jesus modeled for us. We have been successful in getting the street, on which the church resides, named after the founding Pastor. We have partnered with City of Promise to raise community awareness and restore hope for a better future for all people. We have partnered with the City of Charlottesville’s Health Department in bringing a Community Health Workers Program to bring about health related programs, volunteerism and job opportunities.
Pastor Cooper’s current focus remains on building,
“A Place Where Everybody is Somebody in Jesus Christ.”
In his spare time Pastor Cooper enjoys spending time with his wife, two children, four grandchildren family and friends, and fishing whenever the opportunity presents itself.
